- Jewelry Tools Workshop - Accessories for the Dremel & Foredom - with Brad Smith

I
f you're into projects involving wood, plastic, bone, precious metals for jewelry, or rocks & gems for carving, a Foredom or Dremel rotary tool is one of the most useful tools you can have. They are highly versatile and make the work go faster. Uses range from simple hole drilling to carving, sawing, sanding, polishing, texturing and stonesetting.

But which bits to use for each of these operations? There's a bewildering array in the catalogs. Join us Saturday, July 8th in Culver City for a workshop that will introduce you to each type of bit, explain what it's used for, give you hands-on experience, and a hand-out with sources for purchasing.

Attendees will have ample time to try out each type of bit on sample materials. Feel free to bring in your Foredom or Dremel if you have questions or want to know how to adjust it properly.

Jewelry Tools Workshop - Learn to Make Your Own Design Stamps - with Brad Smith
Stamping is a popular way to add detail, texture and embellishment to a piece of jewelry. Design stamps are available from online sources, but prices have risen considerably in the last couple years. This workshop will show how easy and inexpensive it is to make your own stamps using just a few simple tools from your jewelers tool box.

You will learn the entire process of stamp making - preparing a tool blank,  carving the face, testing the design, hardening the steel, and tempering it for long term use. Saws, drills, files, grinding points, and cutoff discs will be provided for attendees to develop the shape on a finished stamp.

Learn how to carve steel and heat treat your new tool for a long service life. We will have Foredoms and Dremels to share in the class, but feel free to bring your own if you wish.
