Pre-Spring Show ‘N Tell and Silent Auction
VETERANS MEMORIAL MULTIPURPOSE ROOM
Today, Ground Hog Day, Punxsutawney Phil called for an early spring this year, so we feel it is okay to call this month’s meeting Pre-Spring, and we totally ignore that Punxsutawney Phil is only correct forty- some-odd percent of the time.
We will start with Show ‘N Tell. Bring a treasured stone or slab or piece of jewelry you want to show to the members. You will have 5 minutes to talk about your item. When you arrive at the meeting see Jette and let her know you have an item to introduce to the members, she will call your name when it is your turn to Show ‘N Tell.
If you have never been to one of our Silent Auctions, you are in for a treat. You can win items for a fraction of what you would have to pay, for example at a rock and mineral show.
You will see tables with slabs, cabs, rough and tum- bled rocks, and minerals, along with beads, tools, magazines, and books, perhaps even a plant or two. Above an item on a table is a form for bidding on the item below. If there is a start-bidding amount listed, that is the minimum amount to write on the sheet, along with your name, otherwise the mini- mum bidding amount is 50 cents. If there is some- one’s amount and name, enter a bid that is at least 50 cents higher than the prior bidder’s. Keep an eye on the items you have bid on since someone might have outbid you.
You are not allowed to enter bid(s) until Steve Dover has called for the start of bidding or after a count- down to end the bidding.
It is fun to watch when a couple of members are vying to get their higher bid listed on an item. When the bidding is over, gather the items you have won and pay (cash or check) the total amount of the bids you have won.
If you have items you want to donate for the auction, bring them to the shop on Saturday or Sunday between Noon and 4 PM. You can also bring them to the meeting, just make sure you arrive early enough to have then entered the auction.
The Veteran’s Memorial Multi-Purpose Room is in the back of the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium Building. When entering the parking lot from Culver Blvd. (closest to Overland Blvd.), walk to the right when facing the building. Around the corner is a sign leading to the Multi-Purpose Room, where our meetings are held.
