Join us for an exciting field trip to the renowned Hauser Geode Beds near Blythe, California, from February 7th to 9th, 2025! Discovered by Joel Hauser in the 1930s, these beds are celebrated among rock and gem enthusiasts for their abundant geodes filled with stunning crystals and agate nodules. Participants will have the opportunity to unearth geodes of various sizes, ranging from cherry-sized to as large as grapefruits. The thrill of cracking open a geode to reveal its hidden crystalline beauty is an experience not to be missed.
The Hauser Geode Beds are located on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land near Wiley’s Well Road. The area is accessible via dirt roads, and while a four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended, careful drivers with high-clearance vehicles can reach the site. Primitive camping is available at nearby BLM campgrounds, including Wiley’s Well Campground (21 primitive sites) and Coon Hollow Campground (29 primitive sites), both offering picnic tables, grills, and vault toilets. Campers should bring their own firewood and drinking water. There is a fee for overnight use of these sites. Participants should also come prepared with appropriate tools such as collecting buckets, hand picks, and shovels.
This trip is open to anyone: members and their guests. The only requirement is that each participant sign the AFMS Field Trip Waiver, which can be done electronically HERE. More information, e.g. meet-up times and locations, will be sent to everyone who has signed up a week or two in advance of the trip.
Don’t miss this chance to explore one of Southern California’s premier rockhounding sites and create lasting memories as you discover the hidden treasures of the Hauser Geode Bed!
