Discover the timeless art of scrimshaw in this hands-on workshop that bridges tradition and experimentation. Participants will learn a variety of scrimming and inking techniques used to create detailed imagery on smooth surfaces. Working on plastic and metal, we’ll explore methods that can easily be adapted to more traditional materials, such as bone, or translated into stone and other contemporary media.
Through guided instruction, you’ll gain experience in tool handling, image transfers, inking, filing, and polishing your scrimshaw pieces to a refined finish. Whether you’re new to scrimming or looking to expand your artistic toolbox, this class offers a unique opportunity to blend precision, patience, and storytelling through mark-making.
All materials and tools will be provided. No prior experience necessary.
